about the artist
Kai Holub (they/he) is an emerging queer, trans, and disabled artist residing in Ottawa, Ontario. Growing up, Holub was rarely without loose pages. They would sketch out characters from childhood cartoons or take note of anything worthwhile. Holub’s early passion for creation led him to study at the University of Ottawa, where he is finalizing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting Specialization) with a Minor in Creative Writing. In their rare free time, Kai Holub enjoys playing fantasy RPGs, listening to video essays, and making little drinks.
artist statement
I’m a transmasculine nonbinary multidisciplinary artist exploring intimacy, gender, sexuality, kink, and belonging through acrylic paintings, digital illustrations, and miscellaneous writings. My most recent painted works showcase unabashed faggotery; deviance that is still considered perverse. Devilish horns, elf-like ears, and vampire teeth decorate my stylized figures. These fantasy elements poke fun at the idea of the “mystical” trans body, all while referring to my general love for speculative fiction. Ultimately, I want to depict queer existence in its multitudes; delicate, messy, genuine, and joyful.
